Integrating Facebook & WooCommerce: The Quick Start Guide

January 24, 2022 | Jon Teodoro

Facebook is one of those things that seems like it’ll outlast everything else on the internet. Despite some bumps in the road and some not-so-minor controversies over the years, Facebook is still holding strong with roughly 2.89 billion monthly active users.

In addition to seeing what their high school classmates are up to, people are doing a lot of shopping on Facebook as well. According to Adweek, there are over a million active Facebook shops, and over 250 million people are interacting with them every month.

That begs the question: Is it time to integrate Facebook with your WooCommerce store? Let’s run you through why that’s worth your time, and how to get started.

It’s not just Facebook

You might have read that intro and thought, “What? I don’t shop on Facebook,” and you’re right, you probably don’t do a whole lot of shopping on Facebook itself—aside from some of those Facebook marketplace deals. A dresser I can have for free as long as I can figure out how to get it home? Score.

Where you do probably shop, though, is Instagram. According to Hootsuite, over 130 million Instagram users tap on shopping posts each month (and that’s a stat from early 2021). Over the last year, a lot of changes have been made to Instagram’s platform, prioritizing its shopping feed. Instagram is owned by Meta, Facebook’s parent company, as is Messenger and WhatsApp—all of which have their own shopping options.

When you install the Facebook for WooCommerce plugin, you’re able to operate a shop on both Facebook and Instagram, directly from your website. These platforms are mobile-friendly, and you’re able to seamlessly sync the products that already exist in your WooCommerce store for real-time inventory.

Also, advertising

Not everyone has a Don Draper-esque knack for tugging at a consumer’s heartstrings. With Facebook for WooCommerce, through, you don’t have to be a professional adman to get your products in front of people’s eyeballs. You’re able to buy, design and target your advertisements to be displayed directly on Instagram and Facebook, right from your WooCommerce dashboard.

Learn more about your customer

If there’s one thing we know about Facebook, it’s that it knows more about us than we know about ourselves. Really, download your data from Facebook. It’s spooky all that it knows about you.

WooCommerce stores that are connected to Facebook, though, also have indirect access to all of that information. With Facebook Pixel and Conversions API, both available in the Facebook for WooCommerce plugin, you get all of the inside information about your demographics and customer behavior.

With this plugin, add Messenger to your website as well. Being able to answer customer questions will give you an even deeper understanding of what they’re looking for.

How to integrate Facebook & WooCommerce

In order to integrate your Facebook page with your WooCommerce store via plugin, you need to make sure you have a Business page for your shop. NOT a regular, personal Facebook page.

Then, install the Facebook for WooCommerce plugin just like any of your other WooCommerce plugins. After the plugin has been installed, integrate by navigating to Wp-admin > WooCommerce > Settings. Then, click “Get Started.”

This will take you to your Facebook page, and you’ll have the option to import your WooCommerce site’s products. Easy peasy!
